Short Conversation

Short Conversation is a one-year long collaboration by Aichen Lin and I-Hua Lee. During this year, Aichen and I-Hua exchanged 44 polaroid photos and 7418 words. Among these conversations, they capture moments of life and art-making in New York City.

Between You and Me

I believe that common life experiences and emotional similarities are the most universal communication languages for human beings, no matter how far they are apart. I use doors as a daily interface with abundant history and imagination to build a physical installation in this project. The audience can interact with the piece based on their own intuition and memory to discover a new interpretation of human connection. To let viewers experience this system naturally as they are contributing to the event, I take advantage of human collective memory embedded in daily physical objects to design a self-driving journey.

Open Door Open Mind is also a reflection of ideal social interaction. I hope that through viewing my project, people will have more awareness of the importance of social equality and empathy.

Different spaces are simultaneously connected and affect each other through internet instant messages. The continuing messages, conversations and still images reduce distance and shrink space. Internet conversations seem real and instant, just like the deep ocean; free and wild. He lay over the ocean.

There were only his heartbeats along with the sound of the waves. Her shadow drifted onto the ocean and her voice was converted into text and appeared on the monitor screen. The restrictions between the fictitious and real worlds simplify meaning and and obscure the percept. Therefore, people are driven and condensed into the fictitious world.

The ubiquity of technology today changes the way people communicate. When sound and imagery can be transmitted through time and space, despite the convenience, it also brings about confusion and conflict to our emotions and relations.

In "ignorance", Aichen Lin and Minghua Lin wanted to address these changes and conflicts.Via the internet, they used video as the medium to capture information from two different places. They then shared this information, which they later edited into two different interpretations from our points of view.
Finally, both of the videos are placed next to each other to create some conversations. Thus, they place the viewer in order to obtain their position through confusion and conflict within the real and fictitious regions.
